Organizing Tip Of The Week: Stair Basket

Tip #4: Keep a basket on your stairs to put things in that need to be brought upstairs.

Stair basketAwhile back I wrote a post about my love for my stair basket.  It’s a basket made to fit neatly on the stairs that I use to toss things in that have found their way downstairs, that really belong upstairs.  It makes putting things away so much easier and saves me many trips up and down the stairs.  Plus it keeps my stairs looking so much neater than they would if I was just piling things on them all day.  Give it a go and let me know what you think!

Organizing Tip Of The Week: Fury

Tip #3: Fury.

In one of my first ever posts I revealed that every day I set my timer for 15 minutes and run around my house seeing how quickly I can straighten things up.  My husband named my frantic organizing, Fifteen Minutes of Fury.  Kooky?  Heck yes.  Effective?  For sure.  It’s amazing what you can accomplish in fifteen tiny focused minutes.  So…set your timer and go for it!

Annabelle’s Rockin’ Father’s Day Gift

With Father’s Day just around the corner, little Miss Annabelle has been hard at work on a gift for her daddy.  Last year we made him a handprint craft.  This year we decided to make him a paperweight that he could bring to work.

My Dad Rocks Paperweight Father's Day GiftThe first step was finding the perfect rock…

FD Gift 2013 Searching...After a little searching, we had a winner.

FD Gift 2013 Found The Rock!I washed all the dirt off the rock and let it dry.  The next day, it was time to paint.

FD Gift 2013 Painting 1As always seems to be the case, after awhile she abandoned her project and started painting herself…

FD Gift 2013 Annabelle Painting HerselfOnce the rock was dry I used a Sharpie to add a little message…

My Dad Rocks PaperweightI made sure to sign and date the back…

My Dad Rocks Paperweight 2As you all know from gifts she has made in the past for her dad, Annabelle cannot keep a secret.  So despite my efforts to explain to her that this was a surprise gift for daddy and that we had to wait until Father’s Day to give it to him, the minute he walked in the door she squealed, “I painted a rock for you to bring to work!  It’s a surprise!!”  And then she grabbed his hand and lead him over to where we had hidden it to dry.  Apparently we need to review the definition of the word surprise.

Here are a few other gifts that Annabelle has made for her daddy:

A Birthday Present For Daddy (Finger Painting!)

A Father’s Day Present For Daddy (Handprint!)

Organizing Tip Of The Week: Purge Before Purchase

Tip #2: Purge before purchase.

It’s tempting when you embark on an organizing project to run out and buy tons of pretty baskets and boxes and bins.  Trust me, I understand.  I find The Container Store to be a little slice of heaven.  But my tip today is to purge before you purchase.  Once you’ve pared down your clutter and sorted what remains, you will then (and only then) have a very clear picture of what you need to buy to keep everything orderly.

P.S. You can check out last week’s tip here.

Organizing Tip Of The Week: Hangers

Tip #1: Designate a space on the clothing rod in your closet for empty hangers.

When you take an item off of a hanger instead of leaving the hanger there, move it to a space on the rod reserved for empty hangers.  Having all your hangers in one place means you won’t waste any time searching through your closet for empty hangers when it comes time to hang up your clean clothes.
